Bridging the Gap: Learning and Growth at IQ
Huba Alvi began her Clinical Psychology internship at IQ Institute of Neuropsychiatry wanting to move beyond theory and see how psychology operates in real clinical settings.
The experience introduced her to ethics, professional conduct and boundaries, followed by interactive roleplays that allowed trainees to experience both sides of therapeutic communication. She also practised history taking and report writing and learned how structured documentation supports psychological work.
Supervision was another highlight. Feedback helped her correct mistakes while encouraging experimentation and reflection. Over time, she became more confident, more open to uncertainty and more willing to trust the learning process.
For future interns, Huba recommends curiosity, patience, questions and active reflection. The internship, she writes, strengthened not only her practical foundation but also her commitment to empathy, professionalism and ethical care.
Our community stories reflect the learning, compassion, collaboration and practical work that sit behind healthcare and welfare.
